Holiday Spectacular Parent Note
Hello Discovery Chorus Parents, 11-12-25
Please keep this document for reference for the Holiday Spectacular weekend. In addition to this email, we will provide a hard copy which your child will give you next Sunday.
Tickets: Reminder: as was discussed at our September parent meeting, this is a ticketed event. You can order your tickets by stopping by the Orchestra Iowa box office, which is just inside the door where you drop off your child every Sunday, or you can call the box office at 366-8203. Important note: when you secure your tickets, please identify yourself as a Discovery Chorus parent. The 2025-2026 comp ticket policy is as follows:
Discovery Chorus Comp Ticket Policy 2025–2026
Each child will receive a total of two (2) complimentary tickets for both Nutcracker performances combined.
Each child will receive a total of two (2) complimentary tickets for both Holiday Spectacular performances combined.
In order to counterbalance the changes, Discovery Chorus families will also receive 25% off any additional (standard priced) ticket purchases using CODE: KIDS25. Student-priced tickets (50% off) are available by phone only at 319-366-8203. If a family would like multiple tickets to be seated together, all tickets—both complimentary and purchased—must be reserved at the same time. NO COMPS will be honored after 5:00PM the Friday before the concert weekend. For Nutcracker, comps end at 5PM on Friday 12/5 and for Holiday Spectacular, comps end at 5PM on Friday 12/19. (This does not apply to the KIDS25 discount.)
In cases of financial hardship, families of Discovery Chorus performers are encouraged to contact Morgan Schwarting at mschwarting@orchestraiowa.org or contact school@orchestraiowa.org.
“Dress rehearsal:” This is a term we use but the singers do not wear choral uniforms to this rehearsal. They also do not bring music or water bottles. This rehearsal is closed to families.
Mandatory Orchestra Rehearsal Thursday Dec 18: Call time at 6:30 p.m. 8:15 p.m. pick up time
If you would like to stay in the building during this rehearsal, you can wait in the lobby on the 1st floor of the Orchestra Iowa building when you drop off your kids. You are also welcome to drop off your child and return for them at the pick up time listed above. They will exit out the 3rd Ave OI school doors.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 20th: concert at 7:30 p.m. Singers call time to the 2nd floor rehearsal room at 7:15 p.m. They finish out the first half of the concert around 8:20 pm. If they are not staying on with you to watch the rest of the second half after their part is finished, they are free to leave, and will watch for you inside the lobby area of the rehearsal building where you normally drop them off. There is no supervision for the singers after their second act part is finished, so please make sure their rides are arranged in advance.
SUNDAY DECEMBER 21st: concert 2:00 p.m. Singers call time to the 2nd floor rehearsal room at 1:45 p.m. They finish out the first half of the concert around 2:50 pm. If they are not staying on with you to watch the rest of the second half after their part is finished, they are free to leave, and will watch for you inside the lobby area of the rehearsal building where you normally drop them off. There is no supervision for the singers after their second act part is finished, so please make sure their rides are arranged in advance.
The pre-show “talent show” you might hear your children talk about is for us to entertain one another while we wait to be called to our places near the end of Act 1. It is just for us, for fun! 😊
